V2.0 - The Writer's Block Strikes Back.

Maybe I should have put off my 'revival' of blah^3... for another week. It'll be exactly a month since I last 'imprinted' my musings on the blog with a (sort of) political rant.

Whoops? (V2.0) (heh.)

Seriously, I tried. But, there's nothing off my head to talk about. And sometimes, that's a GOOD thing. At least, to me it is.

I write well when I'm in a bad mood, really. Angst or hate makes good fuel for thought, and subsequently, a need to put it down on paper or in binary digits. I'm glad to tell you that lately, it's been a while since I've been in a negative state of mind. A week off to see my family really did lift my spirits up, and at home everyone was giving me belated birthday gifts and wishes.

I did tried to pick up my keyboard and start tapping - there must still be a couple of blog drafts I threw into the Recycle Bin left in there.

Anyways, I'm almost broke for the rest of the month because I've just bought a new toy (a Creative Nomad MuVo^2, so it's alright. ^o^), so my mood's still flying high.

Hope it stays that way.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://qjwong.blogspot.com/2004/07/whoops-v20-writers-block-strikes-back.html' title='Whoops? But yet, total votes received are only at the range of 3500, +/-. Roughly the size of our Alpha freshmen - that's a good thing, right?

... NOT! - Let us not forget the students in Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon!

In other words turnout was miserable. (As of time of writing, of course – although I do wonder where can I get official numbers to patch my post with facts.)

For what's Democracy is worth, if citizens (in this case, students) - if they do not practice their rights?

While some may look at the SRC elections as trivial – but think about it, as many university students are of yet voting age (for our country’s politics, we have a voting age of minimum 21.) Freshmen would be on the average of 18, what other perfect time to get used to contributing for our country’s politics other than this?

Besides, a couple of months from now – people would complaint and lament at the inefficiency and lameness of the people THEMSELVES elected or chose TO LET EVERYONE ELSE except themselves elected.

And who’s to blame in this scenario?

Well, yes – things WILL be trivial in a small community like our University, but have our ever thought about how different the consequences are in real life politics?

Elections for our country only comes once every 5 years, unlike the SRC elections, which is a yearly event; Our national elections controls our life – security, taxes, cost of living, health, education, and almost every aspect of our life, the SRC would only order you to attend a meeting or have your club budget halved.

And when irrational people are unhappy with the situation, they break out into the streets and resort to violence and other negative measures to make sure they get what they want. But yet, did they ever stop to think, who put that very same person who’s making them so unhappy in the seat of power in the first place? OR did they just, didn’t bothered to vote in the first place?

Now, whose fault is that?

Whoops?

Looks like I've forgotten about my blog for a while...

Hmm, it's been what, 4 or 5 days?

Bah, I'm slacking off, if i said I've been busy, that will be lying. Truth is, I've finally basking in the glory of having broadband connection, and unlike my friends (the silent one and his housemates), i'm fully enjoying the line ALL BY MYSELF... MUAHAHAHAHHAHAHA (Crackles gleefully, with hints of evil.)

It all happened on that fateful Wednesday morning (last week), I woke up at 3pm, and realized my broadband line... is finally working (the techie said it's only available on Thursday).

"It's aliiiiiiiiiiiiiivvvvvvveeeeeeee!"

So, here's the story of my life since.

1. I wake up late afternoon.
2. I close finished BTs.
3. I open new BTs.
4. I look for more BTs on the net.
5. I spam in forums and enjoy the stuff I dl'ed.
6. I go to class late.
7. Repeat step 2-5
8. I sleep early in the morning.

Rinse and repeat. :-)

But lately thanks to either 1, initial broadband fever has worn off. or 2, Euro 04 fever has pulled me back to real life, or 3, I'm running out of free space on my hard disk and CDs to burn to. (......... most likely), I think I'm finally jacked off the cyberworld addiction.

But man, can the internet kill off your real life or what? One moment, you're awake, the very next moment you found that the day has ended and you haven't had a drink nor food.

Enough of this, I suppose. I can't live my life like this, day after day infront of the monitor like this. What happended to human and social interaction?

Thankfully the weekend was great awakening.

I started off with Karate practice to pound some sense into me, and a whole Saturday to get in touch with my housemates (we went for meals, and I bought a router to share my line, ('bout time), and Sunday I went to hangout and play MTG with the gang down at TeenC@m and had a great time, and I ended my weekend with a magnificient club gathering.

Speaking of which, I need to get ready for a class.

Ah, real life beckons. ;-)

As the clock strikes 12...

... thus ends my 19th birthday.

I knew I wrote something rather melanchony yesterday - which does describe my mood well then, YET, I'm glad to end my day off with a rather optimistic outlook on life.

I'm not really an angsty sort of person - but I tend to enjoy those sort of stories, as much as it hurts me. (I'm not ashamed to admit that I shed tears easily - as I've mentioned yesterday.) And I guess I read/watch it so much - I can't help but let it influence my writing.

A close friend mentioned that I was lucky enough to have so many birthday wishes right before and even luckier to have people sending wishes on the stroke of midnight itself...

I told him, "Maybe it was a conincidence that they were bored and opened ICQ to get a birthday reminder right at that time."

He dismissed me with a wave of the hand and said, "More than 3 calls/sms on midnight - a coincidence? I don't think so."

I can't help but smile.

--------------------------------------------------------------

More than a couple of family members and relatives gave me calls and sms's through the day, and I ended off my day by going out with my friends to watch a movie.

I hope you guys enjoyed the dinner - you better be - since I paid for it... :-)

The movie? Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (HP: PoA) - and it was a great movie. I knew I shouldn't have listened to the critics... Many might disagree with me - but that has to be the best Harry Potter movie ever made. Of course, it's not without it's faults, and I'm deeply dissapointed by the many parts of the book they left out.

I think I might even do some heavier write-up on it.

--------------------------------------------------------------

My general opinion is that people should treat the movie as a supplement to the book - illustrations in a novel, if you will imagine it as such. There's a lot of missing spots in the movie where it's kinda redundant. Harry's parents' tale, or even how the four (James, Lupin and co.) get together, for examples - if the movie were to squeeze all that in, in a movie where to title character gets to speak so few lines as it is, I can't imagine how bad it'll be.

What the movie succeeds in, is to bring all the important parts - the action - not the reason behind the actions, into life! And that's where people who doesn't read the story will fail to appreaciate.

Just in case I wasn't obvious enough, why yes, I'm an HP fan - I was quite a POTHEAD in fact, at least around the time The Order of the Phoenix was released. You might say I'm biased, but I truly hated the first two movies. I left without barely watching half an hour of each movie.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Hmm... more credits for my birthday wishers. Thank you all!

theSilentOne - Go visit his room, link's on the right!

ah Queen (Jia Li) - Aiks, she was an early wisher - I'm sorry I've forgotten about your message!

LIANG! - Damn, do I miss our Fridays or what! We gotta meet up some day.

There's alot more - thank you, everyone. I'm sorry for being too lazy to type them all! :P

But the most important ones came from no other place than my family and relatives. Thank you sooooooo much, for everything.

And to those who didn't know, I don't mind, it's not like I could remember everyone's birthday either - so it's understandable. :-)

Happy birthday to me~!

... and to my blogspot. :-)

If I ever get my blog to be something long-running, the anniversary is going to be easy for me to remember. Afterall, we share the same birthday. In fact, it's one of the reasons I started to blog...

Here I am, 19 years old - and I still haven't found a purpose in my life.

I eat when I'm hungry, and I play when I'm bored, basically, I just exist - which is one reason why games take up so much of my life.

It gives me a sense of accomplishment, to 'work' so hard to get to next level, to unlock another secret event, to finish the game... All that, just to earn that little joy and pride of actually completing something enjoyable.

But in the end, whenever I lie down to sleep, a hollow feeling engulfs my heart and once in a while, I cried myself to sleep. There was several times in my life that I find myself waking up with tear trails and a wet pillow, feeling grateful for not remembering what I dreamt about.

... which is why I don't want to sleep. No, not yet.

So far, this is a very lonely birthday for me - but the day is still young, (2.30am, as I'm writing this).

I can still hope.

--------------------------------------------------------------

On a happier note - I've gotten a number of birthday wishes.

Syunn, Steven, Wei Jin, the [5A] gang - thanks for sending your birthday notes, you can't imagine how good it feels to know that you >gasp!< actually still remember me!

To my 2nd ex, who called at 12.01 am - thank you.

It meant alot to me. Really.

I'm sorry that we couldn't work things out in the end.

Rui Xin, thank you too for your call! (12.05 am, as a matter of fact!) Don't worry too much. Remember, concentrate on what's more important!

Ching Ching, thank you for your picture message, I still have your cologne you gave me last birthday, I'm afraid it's a bit too strong for me... ;-)

Juen Kiet , thank you for standing up to me. I will always stand by you if you ever need me too.

--------------------------------------------------------------

In reality, it's just a day no different than another.

Yet, it's funny how birthdays can open up my heart and make it so vulnarable to pain and hurt, but yet bring so much joy and happy memories...

*sigh*

p/s - Hmm... I mentioned that I wrote this at 2.30am - but yet blogspot registers my blog at 1.43am.. I mean, I've never even picked up diary writing, despite numerous attemps. (I did kept an diary in primary school, when I was seven, but it was part of our homework, so i guess it doesn't counts. )

Then one of my friends started blogging, and in one of his blogs, he metioned that he's blogging since he's having too much free time, and I figured that if I can complain about being bored, might as well as get my fingers workin'.

Welcome to blah blah blah ... , where the blah's never ends.
